The Gary Player Stud Farm is presently home to some of South Africa's finest Thoroughbreds. The farm spans 10,000 acres near Colesberg in the heart of the great Karoo the stomping ground since 1883 of world record equine athletes. The farm now borders the nutrient rich Orange River which is regarded as the most fertile source of lucerne (alfalfa hay) with over 300 acres of pasture under irrigation.
The acquisition of two new farms; Tzamenkomst and Spitskop have enabled Rietfontein to be rested. Near record rainfall in the early part of the new millennium has created a veritable Garden of Eden where the old paddocks are now grazed by a wide range of indigenous animals including springbok, blesbok, mountain reed buck, white tailed wildebeest, etc.
